Why are we doing this and who are we trying to help?

Our planet has finite resources. As a rapidly expanding global community, we face an urgent problem: the inadequacy of those resources to meet our needs.

For many people, cushioned by prosperous lifestyles and surplus resources, the urgency of this problem is not apparent. For others however, resource deprivation is a harsh reality.

IRRI exists to seek practical and innovative solutions to improve global resource use. We believe it is our duty, before anything else, to help those in less fortunate circumstances access the resources they need for their lives. To directly address this duty, IRRI has created the Resource for Life programme.
